Roma no simplemente despertó aquella mañana — llegó ya en movimiento, ruidosa e insistente, como si la ciudad hubiera decidido que el silencio era innecesario.
Rome did not simply wake up that morning — it arrived already in motion, loud and insistent, as if the city had decided that silence was unnecessary.

Marco lo sintió incluso antes de llegar al punto de encuentro, al notar cómo calles que normalmente eran ruidosas ahora parecían vibrar bajo sus pies.
Marco felt it even before reaching the meeting point, noticing how streets that were normally noisy now seemed to vibrate beneath his feet.

Pancartas colgaban de los balcones como cortinas teatrales, los tambores resonaban en algún lugar cerca de la piazza, y el aire llevaba una mezcla embriagadora de espresso, masa frita e impaciencia.
Banners hung from balconies like theatrical curtains, drums echoed somewhere near the piazza, and the air carried an intoxicating mix of espresso, fried dough, and impatience.

—Esto —murmuró Marco para sí mientras ajustaba su bufanda— va a ser magnífico.
“This,” Marco murmured to himself as he adjusted his scarf, “is going to be magnificent.”

Su grupo de catorce turistas esperaba cerca de la fuente, ya medio absorbido por lo que ocurría a su alrededor.
His group of fourteen tourists waited near the fountain, already half absorbed by what was happening around them.

Un hombre filmaba a una banda de marcha que pasaba justo detrás del grupo, una mujer preguntaba si el festival era “siempre así”, y dos adolescentes discutían sobre si los artistas eran profesionales o locales que simplemente habían decidido sumarse.
One man was filming a marching band that passed directly behind the group, a woman asked if the festival was “always like this,” and two teenagers argued about whether the performers were professionals or locals who had simply decided to join in.

Marco dio una palmada, lo bastante fuerte como para recuperar un poco de atención, y abrió los brazos como si subiera a un escenario.
Marco clapped his hands, loud enough to regain a bit of attention, and opened his arms as if stepping onto a stage.

—Damas y caballeros —anunció, sonriendo ampliamente—, bienvenidos no solo a Roma, sino a una Roma que se niega a comportarse.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” he announced with a wide smile, “welcome not only to Rome, but to a Rome that refuses to behave.”

La frase le arrancó sonrisas, y Marco sintió el chispazo familiar de aprobación que siempre le indicaba que el tour había empezado bien.
The line drew smiles, and Marco felt the familiar spark of approval that always told him the tour had started well.

Amaba ese momento, cuando el grupo se inclinaba apenas un poco hacia adelante, concediéndole permiso para guiar no solo sus pasos, sino también sus expectativas.
He loved that moment, when the group leaned just slightly forward, granting him permission to guide not only their steps, but also their expectations.
