The morning sun lit up Tamarindo with a golden glow that seemed to melt over the waves.

The surf shack, built of light wood with a palm roof, was already awake: the scent of fresh fruit and board wax mixed with the salty breeze.

Mateo, barefoot, checked the board rack as if greeting old friends.

Her look was practical but full of spark; she carried an account notebook under her arm, though no one doubted she could set it aside at any moment to laugh or dance.

Sebastián appeared on a bicycle, his board tied with a cord and his hair damp from the early session.

He carried the energy of someone who can’t wait for the next set.
Traía esa energía de alguien que no puede esperar al próximo set.

“The waves are clean, a perfect meter and a half. Who’s coming?” he asked, barely dismounting from the bike.
“Las olas están limpias, un metro y medio perfectos. ¿Quién viene?” preguntó, sin siquiera bajarse bien de la bici.

That was when Valeria stopped in front of the shack.
Fue entonces cuando Valeria se detuvo frente al shack.

She carried a small backpack, worn sandals, and a curious, almost anxious look.
Traía una mochila pequeña, sandalias gastadas y una expresión curiosa, casi ansiosa.

She looked at the hand-painted sign that read Surfside – Boards, Smoothies and Good Vibes.
Miró el letrero pintado a mano que decía Surfside – Tablas, Smoothies y Buena Vibra.

“Excuse me,” she said softly, “do you rent boards here? I’ve never surfed, but… I want to try.”
“Disculpen,” dijo en voz baja, “¿aquí alquilan tablas? Nunca he surfeado, pero… quiero intentarlo.”

Mateo smiled at her with the calm that seemed to come from the sea.
Mateo le sonrió con esa calma que parecía venirle del mar.

“Here we don’t just rent boards, we also teach you to listen to the waves.”
“Aquí no sólo alquilamos tablas, también enseñamos a escuchar las olas.”

He handed her an old longboard with wax marks that told stories.
Le pasó una longboard antigua, con marcas de cera que contaban historias.

“This one is noble. If you fall, you get back up. If you hesitate, it floats with you.”
“Esta es noble. Si te caes, te levantas. Si dudas, flota contigo.”

Valeria laughed nervously.
Valeria rió nerviosa.

“And what if I sink?”
“¿Y si me hundo?”

Sebastián shrugged.
Sebastián encogió los hombros.

“We all sink. The trick is to come out laughing.”
“Todos nos hundimos. El truco es salir riéndote.”
